General Summary
As a substitute school counselor, the children are the focus. The counselor will coordinate, communicate, collaborate, and advocate for the emotional, psychological, physical, social, career, and educational needs of all students he or she interacts with. Substitute counselors work as needed based on their availability.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Valid Ohio pupil services license for school counselors
- Pass background check
PREFERRED
- Two (2) years of experience as a teacher, counselor, social worker, or therapist

- Provide individual counseling to students in the areas of personal-social, educational, and career development.
- Provide group and classroom developmental guidance related to the personal-social, educational, and career development needs of students.
- Develop, in conjunction with other counselors, individual, group, and classroom guidance programs and materials to meet the needs of students.
- Provide critical incident support to students and staff as needed.
- Provide resource coordination services among families, school personnel, and community agencies.
- Provide consultative services to appropriate community resources, families, and appropriate school personnel for the purpose of enhancing the emotional, psychological, physical, and social development of the children.
- Participate with other counselors in professional and personal growth to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills that maximize counselor effectiveness with children.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
- Build positive relationships between students, staff, parents, and community through the use of strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Contract Days/Work Schedule
This position will follow an as-needed schedule, to be determined with the candidate upon receiving an offer of employment.
Compensation
Non-retired Substitute Counselors - Hourly rate: $41.40
Retired Substitute Counselors - Daily rate: $417.68
