Building Leaders for Toledo's Future

The Urban Leadership Development Program (ULDP) has a rich 25-year history of cultivating exceptional school leaders for Toledo Public Schools (TPS). Developed in partnership with the Toledo Association of Administrative Personnel (TAAP), ULDP identifies and equips passionate teacher-leaders for future leadership roles within the district.

Diversity and Collaboration are Key

Building a diverse leadership team is a core focus of ULDP. Over the past 25 years, the program has consistently ensured a strong representation of various backgrounds in race, gender, age, and experience. This commitment continues today.

The program thrives on a strong tri-partite governing board comprised of representatives from TAAP, TPS, and Bowling Green State University (BGSU), our current academic partner. Previously, The University of Toledo played this role. All three entities collaborate seamlessly to identify, select, mentor, and support future school administrators.

A Legacy of Leadership

ULDP is proud to have nurtured nearly 200 school leaders who have significantly impacted TPS. Graduates include superintendents, principals, assistant principals, curriculum directors, executive directors, and even the current TAAP president.
